Our airgun & airgun ammunition policy

Canadian Tire sells airguns and airgun ammunition only to persons 18 years of age or older. Airguns and airgun ammunition are not sold where prohibited by law. Airguns do not require a firearms license.

What are air guns used for?

Air guns are primarily used for small game hunting, but are also often utilized for recreational target shooting and pest control around the home. Air guns use carbon dioxide, spring pistons or pneumatics to fire pellets (pointed) or BBs (round).

What are the parts of an air gun?

Generally, air guns are made up of three main parts: the action, the barrel, and the stock. The action refers to the components where your ammunition is loaded and fired, and where shells or cartridges are ejected. The barrel of the rifle is where your ammunition passes through when fired via compressed air, guiding your projectile where you’re aiming. The stock of the gun is the portion which rests against your shoulder, supporting both the action and barrel, and is featured on air rifles, but not handheld or pistol air guns.

How accurate are air guns?

The accuracy of your air gun will depend on the style, make and model being used. As opposed to air pistols, air rifles feature long barrels and scopes which help to improve aim and accuracy. Your choice of projectile will also affect your overall accuracy. For example, pointed pellets are more accurate than domed or hollow-point pellets, and are the recommended ammunition for hunting. Lastly, adding a scope onto your air gun is another way to enhance your aim.

Are air rifles legal?

As this varies from place to place, please refer to your local laws and regulations regarding air rifles before purchasing.

Additional information for residents of Quebec only: The regular annual rate for persons applying for the Triangle Mastercard and the Triangle World Elite Mastercard is 21.99% for cash transactions and related fees and 21.99% for all other charges. Some applicants may receive a higher or lower regular annual rate depending on a credit evaluation. The minimum payment is the sum of (a) the greater of: (i) interest and fees shown on your statement + $10; or (ii) 5% of the New Balance, excluding amounts on special payment plans, (b) any balance over your credit limit, (c) any amounts past due not included in (b) above, and (d) the amount of any equal payments plan instalments then due. Balances under $10 are due in full. For residents of Quebec, the period between the statement date and the due date for payment is 26 days. The billing period covered by each statement can be from 28-33 days. The Triangle Mastercard and the Triangle World Elite Mastercard do not have an annual fee.
