What are the different types of light switches?
Toggle and rocker light switches are common types of light switches with a simple on/off functionality often found in residential and commercial settings. Dimmer switches provide the ability to adjust the brightness of the lights. They usually feature a slider or rotating knob that allows you to control the intensity of the lighting and are popular in dining rooms, living rooms, and bedrooms. Timer switches allow setting specific times for the lights to turn on or off automatically and are great for conserving energy in unoccupied areas.

What should I consider when buying a light switch?
When purchasing a light switch, you should consider functionality. Do you need a simple on/off switch, or do you want the ability to dim the lights? Consider if you require additional features like timers to help narrow your options. Next, check the compatibility of your light switch with your existing lighting fixtures. Some switches have compatibility requirements, especially regarding dimming capabilities. Finally, consider the style and colour so it complements your interior décor.

Can I install a light switch on my own?
Installing a light switch is a relatively safe and straightforward task. Always turn off the power to the circuit you’re working on. You’ll also need a voltage tester, screwdriver, wire strippers, and wire connectors to ensure proper installation.
