Are there any essential hiking electronics I should bring hiking?

When it comes to hiking, few electronics are as handy (and important) as the GPS. Whether in the form of a GPS watch or a handheld GPS, these helpful tools use satellite navigation to accurately pinpoint your position to within approximately 8 – 10 feet, making them essential for any trek into new territory. Additionally, a GPS can help establish landmarks and waypoints, gauge various topographical obstacles, record your current route, display new routes, and show you your present elevation.
