Do home security cameras have to be connected to Wi-Fi?

CCTV style cameras don't need a Wi-Fi connection and will record directly to a dedicated box. Smart security cameras require a Wi-Fi connection to operate.

What do I need to install security cameras?

You'll need a drill or screwdriver, and possibly mounting hardware or anchors to securely mount cameras outdoors. Indoor cameras are usually placed on flat surfaces like windowsills or shelves.
