How do I know what size battery cable to buy?

Choosing the right battery cable size and length is important for your battery’s overall efficiency. In order to find the right battery wire gauge, you need to know the amperage that the accessory needs to carry and the wire length between the accessory and the power source. The higher the amperage, the larger the gauge. Before purchasing battery cables, it’s best to review your owner’s manual to see what gauge it recommends. Is there a difference between battery cables?

There are different types of battery cables that are used in specific applications, whether it’s for cars, trucks, RVs, or even marine applications. The main differences between the various battery wire types are the insulation, flexibility, and copper strand counts.

Do I hook up the positive or negative battery cable first?
