Is a power bar the same as a surge protector?

When a power bar has built-in surge suppression circuitry, it's referred to as a surge protector. Not all power bars have built-in surge protection, so if it's a feature you need, make sure you choose the right power bar.

What's the best power strip to buy?

The best power strip depends on what you'll use it with. For electronics that are sensitive to surges, like smartphones, audio/video equipment, TVs, and computers, a surge protector is a good investment. For power tools and common appliances, a standard power bar is often enough. Features like USB ports, weatherproofing, or lighted switches are also worth looking into, and always check that you choose a power strip that is rated for the number of amps you'll run through it.
