Are sponges or rags better for painting projects?

Which is better depends on how you work. A blend of both rags and sponges will help you clean and prep surfaces most effectively, while sponges can be used to create a textured effect for painting surfaces.

How do you use a sponge while painting?

Dip the sponge in paint and apply it to the wall without pressing down too firmly. Sponges can be used for quick touch-ups when applying paint, or can be used with paint thinner to clean up after your project.

Why do you need rags when painting?

Rags are useful for wiping down surfaces when prepping them for paint. Rags can also be used to clean spills and drips or to dry brushes after cleaning them.

How do you wash a sponge that has been used for painting?

You'll want to rinse it under running water before the paint dries, then squeeze the water out, and use a rag to dry it and remove any remaining paint.
