How do I know it's time to replace my CV axle/joint?
Here are a few warning signs that will tell you it’s time for a replacement CV axle/joint:
· You start to hear clicking or popping noise while you’re turning.
· There is grease building up on the inside edges of the front tires.
· While driving, you feel vibrations in the steering wheel and the floorboard of the vehicle.
What happens if your CV axle/joint breaks?
When your CV axle/joint breaks, the wheels that are attached to it will no longer turn, causing your car to be immobile. If your CV axle begins to fail while you’re driving, your car will start to pull to one side as the wheel with the broken axle loses power.
Should I replace the CV boot, axle, or joint myself?
Replacing the CV boot, axle, or joint at home requires you to use car ramps or jack stands so you can safely get under your vehicle. If you have all the equipment set up in your garage and you prefer to DIY, you can do the replacement right at home. You can also book an appointment at your local Canadian Tire Auto Shop and have one of our auto service professionals perform the replacement.
