Do metal detectors really work?

Yes. Whether you’re camping, hiking, or just exploring, metal detectors are fun, effective outdoor devices for all ages. Metal detectors are an excellent way to stay active, survey your surroundings, hunt for relics or coins, and more.

How deep do most metal detectors go?

Most modern metal detectors are capable of detecting objects up to 20 cm below the surface. In favourable detecting conditions, a standard mid-range metal detector can detect up to 45 cm deep, while certain high-end units can go as deep as 20 metres.

Do you need a license to use a metal detector?

As rules for metal detectors vary from place to place, it’s recommended to review your local laws and regulations. Additionally, it’s best to consult with the appropriate landowners or public places where you plan on using your metal detector.

What do I look for when buying a metal detector?

When purchasing a new metal detector, there are a few important features to look out for, depending on how you’ll use your device. First, determine what level of depth detection you’ll need. Most mid-range units can detect between 20 cm and 45 cm under the surface, while professional units can detect much further. Next, consider the size of your coil. Smaller coils are great for finding small items in more crowded areas, while larger coils are preferred for much deeper exploring. Another important feature to be mindful of is the weight of your metal detector. As these units are used in the outdoors and must be carried around and transported, make sure you choose a metal detector that is both lightweight and comfortable to hold an extended period of time.
