What do I need to install a trailer hitch?

First, you need the right trailer hitch rated for the weight class suited for your vehicle. You should never tow anything that exceeds the towing capacity of your vehicle and its appropriate hitch. You will also need a towing ball mount and trailer ball. The installation process would vary slightly depending on which type of vehicle you have, and the type of trailer hitch selected. Always read the instructions carefully.

What can I use for weight distribution on a hitch?

What is a breakaway system, and do I need one?

In the event that a trailer disconnects from the towing vehicle, a breakaway system is there to activate the trailer’s electric brakes for a safe stop. But before purchasing, always make sure to check your provincial and territorial regulations. Each province has their own laws which require a breakaway system based on the trailer and its weight.
