What are ball mounts used for?

Ball mounts are used to secure hitches. They are composed of a shank and trailer ball platform. The platform provides a sturdy mounting point for a trailer ball while the shank is inserted into the hitch receiver tube.

Is there more than one type of ball mount?

Balls mounts come in a variety of sizes, lengths, classes and weight capacities. Finding the right one will depend on the height of your connection between the towing vehicle and the trailer, and on the proper weight rating which should be equal to or greater than the trailer being towed.
