What is the purpose of faucet aerators?

Faucet aerators screw into faucets and use a small metal screen that adds air to the water stream as it leaves the faucet. This aerated flow of water is useful as it prevents splashing and related messes, and also reduces the amount of water flowing through the faucet, helping you conserve and limit your consumption and lowering your water bill.

Do faucet aerators need to be replaced?

Faucet aerators will need replacement on occasion, one good rule of thumb is to change or clean aerators once a year. You'll know if the aerator is ready for replacement if it leaks while the water is running or if you're noticing abnormal pressure. Some issues can be solved by replacing the O-ring, and others will require replacing the entire aerator.

Are faucet aerators universal?

Most kitchen faucet aerators and bathroom faucet aerators have a universal size that should allow most water aerators to fit without any issue. However, since the threading of each faucet spout can vary, you'll still want to make sure the aerator you choose fits your faucet.
