Which is Better, a Canister Vacuum or an Upright Vacuum?

Which is better depends on your home, your floors, how open your spaces are, and how much storage room you have for a vacuum. Canister vacuums work by housing the vacuum motor and dust collector separately in a rolling body, connected by a flexible hose to the vacuum wand. Canister vacuum cleaners often come with telescoping wands to add extra reach, the wands can be toggled for carpets or hard floors. Upright vacuum cleaners have the motor and vacuum head in one body, which makes them more compact, while the wand, hose, and body of a canister vacuum take up more space in closets.

What are the Advantages of a Canister Vacuum?

Canister vacuum cleaners have a separate housing for the motor, which allows for more power. The separate vacuum wand and hose makes canister vacuums very maneuverable compared to uprights, and ideal for cleaning under and around furnishings and tight spaces.

Since canister vacuums are corded, battery life is never a concern. Bagless models allow you to empty the canister directly into the garbage, and bagged models offer convenient and tidy disposal. Attachments can allow for more reach and easier cleaning of fabrics and upholstery, carpets, drapes and hard-to-reach spots.

Canister vacuums work well on carpets, rugs, hardwood, laminate, tile, engineered wood, concrete, and any other dry surface you need to clean.
