How do you waterproof an outdoor electrical outlet or fitting?

You can install a cover on existing outlets that can be opened when you need to use them and closed to seal out water the rest of the time.

What is a weatherproof electrical fitting?

Any electrical fitting designed to be outdoors is weatherproof, which means it's built with a waterproof material like plastic, and typically seals or closes securely so that water cannot get in.

Weatherproof outlets have ground fault circuit interrupters that automatically shut off when current becomes unsafe.

Is there a waterproof electrical fitting or do you need a cover?

Most waterproof electrical fittings include built-in covers, but separate covers exist so you can add them to outlets.
