What parts of a car should be greased?

Parts that have metal-to-metal contact need to be greased in order to function and move properly. Any exposed mechanical moving parts made of metal, such as latches, hinges (doors, deck-lid or lift gate), chassis, wheel bearings, and steering and suspension parts, need to be lubricated to ensure easy operation.

What do I need to lubricate car parts?
When it comes to choosing the right car parts grease, it will depend on the parts that need lubricating. There are various types of automotive lubricants to choose from: gear oils, grease, and penetrating lubricants. Grease is thicker and stickier in consistency and is ideal for gears, linkages, bearings, and chains. From wheel bearing grease to brake lubricants, heavy-duty grease, and much more, Canadian Tire offers a wide selection of car part grease for your vehicle’s needs.

When should you grease your car?
Key parts of your car that should be lubricated regularly are your door and deck-lid lock cylinders, latches, liftgate hinges, and manually operated windows. For other applications, greasing should be done every 3 to 6 months, depending on your driving style, mileage run, and the type of grease used.

What does the color of my grease mean?
Typically, grease manufacturers will use colour to identify various types of grease. However, this system varies across manufacturers. The colour should never be used to specify a type of grease or a particular thickener type.
