Why does a shop vac need a filter?

Filters can trap dust and other small particles from the air when you vacuum, which can make your working environment safer, especially if you often work with cement, drywall, or stone.

When do I need a new bag or filter for my shop vac?

You'll know when it’s time for a replacement if the vacuum suction power drops noticeably. Replaceable filters can last for over 12 months with average use, while for heavy use replacement every 6 months is a good rule of thumb. Bags should be replaced before they fill up entirely, with average use they should last 3 or more months.

Do shop vacuums need a filter with a bag?

A filter can still be useful if you will use your vacuum to clean very fine dust and other dry debris, as it will ensure cleaner air. For a wet vacuum, a filter is necessary to prevent any large debris from entering the motor and causing damage.

Are there bags for shop vacuums?

There are many types of bags for shop vacuums, and it's generally recommended to use a bag if you will use your vacuum for cleaning fine debris that could otherwise end up in the air. Bags also extend the working life of filters and make it much easier and cleaner to dispose of waste once you've vacuumed it up.

What size filter does a shop vacuum use?

The size of filter you need for your shop vacuum depends on the brand and model it is, check your user manual to make sure you choose the right filter.
