The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL). Being one of the two NHL franchises based in the province of Alberta, they have an infamous rivalry with the Edmonton Oilers known as the “Battle of Alberta”. They were originally founded in 1972 in Atlanta, USA as the Atlanta Flames before relocating to Calgary in 1980. Their team colours are red, yellow, and white and their logo features a flaming letter C design in red and yellow.
Why are they called the Flames?
As the team was originally the Atlanta Flames, their name is a Civil War reference to General Sherman’s March to the Sea, a time when most of the state of Georgia was in flames.

The Flames have won the Stanley Cup once, in 1988-1989.

The Flames are based in Calgary, Alberta. They currently play in the Scotiabank Saddledome (originally the Olympic Saddledome) but played their first three seasons in the Stampede Corral.
