Wearing a helmet when using an ATV or UTV is mandatory when it comes to safety.
An ATV helmet or any other type of quad helmet will shield your head from serious injury. Some models also have face coverings, which offer further protection from low hanging branches, dirt, gravel and debris.
What Size ATV Helmet Do I Need?
As with any other motorsport activity, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to finding the right four-wheeler helmet. A good starting point is measuring the circumference of your head 2 cm above your eyebrows and comparing it with manufacturer sizing. It’s important to note that there may be some variation between manufacturers, so your measurement should serve more as a guideline, especially when purchasing your first helmet.
Your head shape also plays an important role in determining your helmet size. There are three categories of head shapes: long oval, intermediate oval and round oval. Once you figure out your shape, you can narrow down your options.
The best way to determine if a quad helmet is the right size is to actually try it on. These types of helmets should fit a bit tight, but not enough to cause pain or a headache. If your helmet moves freely as you turn your head side to side, or if you can easily sneak a finger in between your forehead and helmet padding, it’s too big. A bit of trial and error is required before finding the right fit.
Can You Use a Bike Helmet For An ATV?
While both motorcycle and ATV helmets are similar in purpose, there are some differences between the two. ATV helmets are designed for off-roading and have better mud and dirt protection, as well as better airflow to prevent sweat and fog buildup.
