Can’t wait to pick out a new board?
While getting your hands on some new wheels is exciting, there are a few things you should consider first. Think about where you’d like to skate, your skill level and if there are specific stunts you want to try. How you plan to use your skateboard will help determine what style you should opt for.
What are the different types of skateboards?
There are many different types of skateboards to choose from but here some of the top styles to consider:
Penny boards – Their plastic decks make them lightweight and ideal for quick turns.
Doublekick boards – Both ends of the deck are curved upward, making them perfect for flip tricks.
Cruiser boards – Designed for steady rides or commuting.
Longboards – Larger than standard boards which makes them more stable and beginner-friendly.
How do I choose the right size skateboard for me?
Age, height and riding terrain can help you determine what width of skateboard you need. Board width ranges from micro, mini, mid and full size. Micro and mini sizes are best for children and mid and full width board decks are generally best for teens and adults. Wider decks provide stability and versatility for switching between different terrain, for example, going from the street to the skate park.
For board length, your skate style is the most important factor. In general, Shorter boards are best for tricks, while longboards are better for smooth, long-distance rides or for going downhill.
