What's the difference between planters and plant pots?

Although the terms planters and plant pots are often used interchangeably, pots are considered small, round containers that are made for one plant, while indoor and outdoor planters come in many sizes and shapes that can contain many plants. Planters are designed to hold growing plants, so they will often have drainage holes and built-in reservoirs to catch water. On the other hand, decorative plant pots are commonly used for aesthetic purposes and can be placed over a functional planter.

What's the difference between indoor and outdoor planters and pots?

It’s important to select the appropriate pots and planters for indoor or outdoor plants, due to the differences in environment. Indoor planters and pots need plenty of aeration and drainage, so it is best to choose a terrarium or a container with holes. This way, you can avoid soggy soil conditions that are not ideal for indoor plants. As well, indoor plants and pots often come with drip trays to prevent mess or damage. Outdoor planters and pots do not often require drainage holes as the environment allows water to evaporate naturally. Containers made with natural materials such as terra cotta or stone are popular as they are water-permeable and ensure optimal growth. Other outdoor containers such as box planters can act as a raised garden bed that you can use for growing and serve as a decorative feature in your yard.
