Diverters make it easy to switch the flow of water from a tub spout to a showerhead, so you can use your tub for bathing or showering as needed.
What are shower diverters?
Shower diverters are a type of valve mechanism that reroutes water from a bathtub spout to a showerhead when activated.
What are the different types of shower diverters?
Tub spout diverters are pin knobs built into spouts that can be pulled up to divert the flow of water to the shower. Wall-mounted diverters are separate from the spout, but also divert water in the same way. Some diverters are built into the water supply piping, so you can divert water by turning a knob.
How do I know if my shower diverter needs to be replaced?
If water comes out of both the showerhead and tub spout, that is the most common sign that the diverter needs to be checked for residue. If there's nothing preventing the diverter from fully turning, then its internal parts may be worn out and it will need to be replaced.
