What is the difference between chain and belt drive garage door openers?

Chain drive garage door openers use a metal chain assembly attached to tension springs to open the door. This style tends to be stronger and more affordable but can be quite loud. Belt drive openers use a rubber belt and a trolley gear system to operate and are better suited for lighter loads and places where a quieter operation is preferred.
