What is the best container for gas?

Ensure that you are storing your fuel in a high-quality jerry can (also known as a gas can) to prevent dangerous accidents like fires or explosions from happening. Gas containers are coded by colour, which signifies the kind of fuel that is being stored inside. Red fuel cans are for gasoline, blue is for kerosene, yellow is for diesel fuel, and green is for oil. How many gas cans can I carry Canada?

In Canada, you are allowed to transport up to 150 kg of gas as long as each approved container does not exceed 30 kg.

Where should I store my gas cans?

Store your gas cans in a well-ventilated detached space like a shed or garage away from your home. Keep them 50 feet away from a flame source and away from direct sunlight. Ensure that your containers are away from major household appliances such as dryers, refrigerators, or water heaters. It’s also important to check with your local fire department for any regulations regarding fuel storage.

Is it safe to store gas cans in the garage?

Due to the risk of fire and explosions, it can be dangerous to store gas cans in a garage attached to your home. If you do store fuel in your garage, make sure that it is in an approved and leak-proof container, placed away from the reach of children and pets. Take extra precautions to avoid accidents caused by improper storage. A detached space like a shed away from your house is a safer spot to store your gas containers.

How long can you store gas in a gas can?

Typically, gasoline can last three to six months in a sealed container. You can extend the shelf life by up to a year if you add fuel stabilizers.
