Are all-season tires okay for the winter and summer?

All-season tires, also known as 3-season tires, are perfect for spring, summer and fall driving because they are built to provide traction in warm, dry and mildly wet road conditions. The tread patterns are generally designed to provide a quiet, comfortable and low rolling resistance ride in warmer temperatures.

In terms of durability, all-season tires are constructed with a harder rubber compound which give them a longer tread life, but means they tend to lose traction in weather below 7°C. In the winter, snow and slush can clog the shallower tread channels creating an unsafe surface for driving.

How often do I need to replace all-season tires?
