Q: Can you use for counter kitchen appliances?

A: Yes, the wall tap will plug into kitchen electrical outlets and work for you appliances. If the unit is plugged into a GFI protected circuit then it will act as such as well.

Q: Is the top and bottom plug on a separate circuit? I'd like to use such a wall adaptor for a switched outlet.

A: The top and bottom plugs are on separate circuits. When plugged into a 2-gang receptacle, the top 3 outlets and bottom 3 outlets will all work. If only one plug is connected into a receptacle only the 3 outlets will work.
