How to Choose the Right Adhesive

When regular glues can't get the job done, there is a range of high-strength adhesives to help you keep things together. Our wide assortment of heavy-duty adhesives covers everything from standard household repairs to demanding projects and automotive work.

What are the different types of adhesives?
Super glue: this common heavy-duty adhesive can be used to create a strong bond between many different types of material, including fabrics, metals, wood, and more.
Spray adhesive: spray adhesive is a great choice when you want quick coverage on a wide area and can be used for materials ranging from cardboard and wood to glass, rubber, and plastics.
Epoxy adhesive: epoxy adhesives are heavy-duty and create very high strength bonds and are more resistant to solvents and heat.
Contact cements: also known as impact glue, contact cement is generally used for tile, rubber, metal, and wood, and creates a strong yet flexible bond.
Construction adhesive: highly durable and versatile, construction adhesives are typically designed for use in caulking guns, and great for installing subfloors, mirrors, backsplashes, and more.
Automotive adhesive: whether for exhaust repair, bodywork, or general repair, automotive adhesives create strong bonds between metals, plastics, and glass, and some can also fill gaps and holes to act as structural material.

How do I know which adhesive I need for my project?
For general household repairs, super glue is a good all-around choice. Contact cement is often used to bond countertops and bonding different materials. For anything related to your vehicle, check out the wide range of automotive adhesives to see which one suits your project.

How can I stay safe when working with adhesives?
Many adhesives will give off fumes or vapours, especially contact cement and epoxies, so working in a well-ventilated area is a must. Eye protection and gloves are good protection when working with adhesives. Never use adhesives near open flame or sparks, as some can be extremely flammable. Always read the warnings and precautions provided by the manufacturer to make sure you use the right adhesive safely.
