Product Details
Low odour formula. General-purpose, black RTV indoor/outdoor sealant. Seals, bonds, repairs, mends and secures glass, metal, plastics, fabric, vinyl, weather stripping and vinyl tops. Protects and repairs electrical wiring. May be applied to horizontal or vertical surfaces. Waterproof and flexible. Temperature range -75°F to 450°F (-59°C to 232°C); resists water, weather and vibration. Not recommended for windshield installation.

Q: Will this product cure if applied in cold temperatures below 0c ?

A: Hello Ryry, thank you for your question regarding Permatex Black RTV Adhesive Sealant. RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) silicones cure by absorbing moisture from the air. In cold environments, there is often less moisture available for the silicone to cure. At room temperature, a quarter inch thick bead of silicone will generally fully cure within 24 hours. In cold environments, RTV silicone could take a few days before fully curing. It is difficult to give you an exact answer as the curing process is very dependent on the amount of air moisture available. Thank you.

Q: Hello, can this be used to seal a power cable going through a rubber grommet through the firewall of a vehicle. Just want to make sure it does not damage the wire insulation with any chemicals.

We would not recommend painting this product as it is a silicone based product and most all types of paints will not adhere properly or will delaminate and peel off. Q: Can this be used on the outside of an electric kettle to seal a leak in the window?

A: Hi , I have small hole in cars my upper control arm rubber housing. Would this seal work to seal that hole so the grease would not leak over time. If not , do you have another type of sealant you can recommend?

Q: can this be used as a thermal compound? like the one that is used on the CPU heat sink ?

A: No. Thermal compound is a conductor of heat, and does not have any adhesive qualities. Silicone does not conduct heat very well, which would tend to insulate the cpu, from the heatsink, which is not what you want to do.

Q: I have small wear holes on my hockey goalie chest protector. It is mesh fabric over high-density foam with reinforcement. Would this work to seal the hole, prevent further tearing, and provide a hard surface that would be resistant to wear in the future?

While this product was not designed for sports/hockey equipment repair, there is an unknown on whether or not this product will bond to the materials the are used in your equipment. Permatex Black RTV Silicone Adhesive/Sealant is a general purpose RTV silicone indoor/outdoor sealant that seals, bonds, repairs, mends and secures glass, metal, plastics, vinyl, weather stripping and more. It is not recommended in applications that are under air pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. It's not clear as to the application you are looking to repair, but in most all cases it is best to replace the damaged component(s) that is under air pressure. Q: Anybody used this to fix a small tear/hole in an ATV/snowmachine vinyl seat cover by appplying on the affected area? Will it stick to vinyl?

A: Hello, and thanks for your question. Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive and Sealant is designed to seal and bond metal, glass, wood, plastic ceramics and other materials. It is not suited for sealing damaged or cracked vinyl or leather seat covers, therefore we do not recommend it in this application. We do sell a Permatex Vinyl and Leather Repair kit at Canadian Tire, this product is specifically designed for repairs such as the seat on your ATV. Q: Would this product be suitable for sealing a small hole in a pond liner? I believe the liner is a synthetic rubber like EDPM

A: Hi Mike, thanks for the question regarding the repair of your pond liner. If the liner is a synthetic rubber such as EDPM, we would not recommend the Permatex RTV Silicone. While this product will seal rubber, we would recommend that you get a proper rubber repair kit with a rubber patch and vulcanizing adhesive, there are many types of EPDM Seaming & Repair kits available that would be able to properly and permanently patch the hole in your pond liner.
