What is a “tip-up” used for when ice fishing?

When ice fishing, a tip-up is a piece of gear that suspends your chosen bait at a set depth under the ice, signaling with a small flag that “tips up” when fish bite. This method makes it possible for anglers to have multiple baited hooks in the water simultaneously.

How do you set up ice fishing tip-ups?

Once you’ve chosen your bait, the next step is to attach it to the tip-up. Simply tie your prepared rig directly onto the heavy tip-up line before dropping your bait underwater at your desired depth level – and then wait.

How do you use an ice fishing rod holder?

Similar to a standard tip-up device, a moving flag on the fishing rod holder signals a fish taking the bait, but unlike a tip-up, you must remove your rod reel combo from the holder to successfully land the fish.
