Bobbers, floats, and corks are used to keep bait or lure at a specific depth. They also have the added benefit of letting anglers know when fish bite. Overall, they are useful for reducing snags and more effective fishing.

What type of float or bobber should I use?

Bobbers come in a range of shapes, sizes, and styles including round, quill, oblong, and more. Depending on the style, they are either tied directly to your line or have the line slipped through for slip-cork fishing. Ensure you pick the right size float or bobber. If it is too large, for example, the fish may feel it and not hook on. A few examples of types include:

• Bubble Floats – These types of floats have a hollow plastic body that can be filled with water depending on the angler’s preferences. These float to the surface when fish take the bait.

Are floats the same as bobbers?

Used synonymously, fishing bobbers and floats are similar items but traditionally differ in appearance. Floats tend to be long and slim as well as less visible, while bobbers are round and brightly colored. They essentially function the same way as they both act as a bite indicator, an addition of weight, and can suspend bait at a specific depth.

How do you fish with a bobber float?

After picking the right bobber float for your fishing excursion, you also want to pick a good bait, which may include worms, crickets, minnows, or salmon eggs. Once you have your gear ready, follow these steps:

1. Attach your hook to the end of your line.

2. Decide on the depth you want to fish.

3. Attach your bobber and push down on the top to release the hook.

4. Place your line inside of the hook and release pressure on the top.

5. Attach your line to the top of the bobber.

6. Place your line through the top hook and release pressure.

7. Place your bait onto the hook.
