This vs that eh The floaty syndrome back story

I am not a techy fisherman eh More a Caribou Chilcotin raised rednck kid. All 60-70's old school eh This float handled a medium weight line with weight easily. I remarked at its response visually to wind drift and slightest of bobbing nibbles. By comparision I doubled the small tear drop weight for casting on short 6' rod. My white and red plastic ball float submerged..... Maybe to much added weight? I feel the Gibbs Tech would have handled it.
