With stud holes so you can add studs for extra lateral traction, this tire is built to carry you safely and securely through Canadian winters.

Snow Peak Rated

The 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol indicates the tire is rated for Severe Snow Service. This is the acceptable standard for winter driving in Canada and provides improved safety on snow and ice.

Mud And Snow Rated

The M+S symbol differentiates an All-Season tire from a Summer only tire. While rated for light snow, they will not match a winter tire for traction or stopping distance on snow and ice.

Accepts Studs

This tire can have studs installed to provide additional mechanical traction on icy surfaces. Studded tires are prohibited by law in many provinces. Ask at your local Canadian Tire store.

Good tires, bad mounting

The tires are performing well so far except for the one improperly mounted by CTC staff. Before swapping out the summer/all-season wheels I checked all 4 of the recently mounted Altimax and one was only inflated to 12.5 psi vs spec 32psi. Thinking it was merely an oversight by the shop I topped up the tire to 32psi, installed them and double checked the next day. The spec psi was maintained. My daughter drove the car for several week then reported a rumbling noise from one of the wheels. Sure enough the same wheel which was inflated to 12.5 at the shop was flat. What's more the steel rim damaged the sidewalls so the tire had to be replaced. I had to pay for disposal, mounting, balancing costing an additional $65. I'll be keeping a close eye on that wheel going forward.

I usually buy Michelins or Bridgestone Winter tires but they were all sold out. These tires were rated very high for traction on snow and ice and they were in stock. They were also on sale and had a $50 dollar mail in rebate! The best part was getting them installed the next morning! I'm hoping to get three Winter seasons out of them, but if I don't who cares they were half the price of the Bridgestone's or Michelin's tires.

jai acheté ce pneu sur recommandation du commis du CT pour ma niro électrique et je suis tres déçu de sa tenue sur la neige. malgré que je ne roule pas vite sur la neige, lorsque j'arrive sur les coins de rue que je dois faire un arrêt, des qu'il y a un peu de neige accumulé, jai l'impression d'avoir des pneus d'été, aucun controle, glisse et dérape facilement tres déçu de cette achat, pu jamais je vais en racheté !

A: No — the presence of stud holes alone does not meaningfully reduce tire performance or accelerate wear when you run them without studs.

Q: What is the UTQG rating for these tires? (Traction, temperature, and treadwear)

A: Quote from a tire manufacturer. "UTQG markings are not required for deep-treaded light truck tires, winter/snow tires, temporary spare tires, trailer tires, and tires under 12-inches in diameter" Because they're meant for winter conditions, a valid UTQG code compared to a summer tire is not possible. Winter tires typically have a softer runner compound for the colder temperature. This would result in accelerated wear if used in summer. However from experience (2 sets) I can say the the Altimax are a very good winter tire with the first set lasting me 5-6 winters
