What are the different types of torches?

Butane torches are compact and handheld, with an internal fuel cell, and capable of creating flame up to 1,300°C, useful for working with less heat resistant metals, soldering, or for general purpose heat.

Propane torches are usually attached directly to a fuel canister and can burn close to 2,000°C, making them ideal for brazing, driveway and roof repair, and other heavy-duty heating.

What should I look for when buying a torch?

Adjustable temperature settings can let you dial in the correct temperature for your project, electric or self-lighting features let you start torches easily with one hand. Safety features like child-resistant ignition can be important.

What else do I need when buying a torch?

You'll need enough fuel to keep the torch burning throughout your project. If you'll use a propane torch for driveway repair or roofing, a blaze torch wand is a must-have.
