Does what both a photo electric and ionization alarm does

I've had 2 of these - one for 10 years, one for 5 years. One was near our kitchen. As other reviewers have noted, it doesn't seem to do any better at differentiating nuisance alarms from the kitchen, but they are easily handled with one push of the hush button. What I really like is that the technology is good for both slow burning and fast burning types of fires, while photo electric and ionization alarms are good at one or the other. This makes is a very worthwhile purchase. Sadly when I went to replace the 10 year old one I learned that Canadian Tire no longer carries this product at least locally in the Halifax area.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Piece of Junk

We bought this smoke detector because we were getting annoyed with the occasional false alarms that we were getting from our other one. It promised to greatly reduce false alarms, but it turned out to be way worse that the other one, going off when there was only the slightest smell of food cooking. There didn't even have to be any smoke smell to set it off. I had to start cooking with the fan running all the time and several doors and windows open just to keep it quiet. The silly alarm went off too many times for my two-year-old and now he is terrified of it and has bad dreams about the "moke tector" at night. He's even afraid to look at it during the day and darts past it for fear that it will go off when he is under it. That's the last straw. I am going out to buy a new one tomorrow.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Buy something else!

Bought this because of the claim that it can differentiate between cooking smoke and real fire and reduce false alarms. It is worse than the ancient ones I replaced it with. Almost every time we cook something in the oven, the alarm goes off, even if we haven't even opened the oven door. We are greatly disappointed! On the positive side, it was easy to install and the cancel button works well, which is good, since we need to use it frequently. In our experience, the alarm has not gone off again once we have pushed the cancel button. If you do purchase this detector, DO NOT install it anywhere near a kitchen!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Waste of money!!!!!!!! Don't even think about it!!

I bought 2 of these and they are worse that the old models. There is a 2 foot header between my kitchen and the hall where the detector is and it went off all of the time even though nothing was being burnt it seems that steam sets it off. I had to use the fan all the time which I find to be noisy and a waste of resources. Last week it went off and I couldn't silence it. I'm in a wheelchair with a cast on and had to get on a kitchen chair to pull it off and it still wouldn't stop. After almost 10 minutes of this I had to pull the battery out. I haven't put it back up and I'm not going to.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Dissapointment at best......

No better at deciphering between false and real alarms than the 20 year old cheap alarm it replaced. Stove, shower etc. all cause false alarms. Also when you push the button to silence the unit it only silences it for a second before it starts going off again. It's getting returned for something else.

No, I do not recommend this product.
