Cast Iron Skillet

I was excited to buy a C.I. Skillet for this low a price. I initially followed the instructions to season it. it didn't work very well. So, I looked online: I found that lightly oiling, cooking it on at 450°, re-oiling every 1/2-hour, baking for 2 hours total, has had a *MUCH* better result. (seriouseats.com, if interested)

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Where is this product made?

  • A: I suspect you are looking to know where to get non-China made cast iron?  Look at the brand Lodge. It is readily available in Canada and is USA made.

Q: I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. The reviews rave about the brushed finish but I find EVERYTHING sticks no matter how much oil or butter or anything I use! What can I do to make it less sticky?

  • A: Hello, I would recommend that after every wash, completely dry out the pan. And for the next use, preheat the pot first, put some oil in, and then adjust to a low or medium fire for cooking. This can reduce the sticking phenomenon to a certain extent.

Q: How do you reason this pan before first use?

2 Answers
  • A: I believe they give you instructions with the pan. But this is the most common method. Clean the pan - wash with hot/warm water and soap. Dry immediately and thoroughly (you can put it on the stove or in thee oven on medium/low heat to dry). Once dry, let it cool enough so that you can handle the pan. Preheat oven to 500deg or thereabouts. Coat the whole pan lightly with Flax seed or Canola oil (or other oil). Coat inside and outside and the handles with oil and work the oil in a little. Now wipe the excess oil off (i know it seems counter productive, but you need a very thin layer of oil). Put the coated pan in the oven at 500deg bottom side up. Bake for an hour. Turn the oven off. Let the pan cool in the oven. et voila.

Q: There are two models listed in the bullets" 10" and 12". Which one is this?

1 Answer
  • A: It is impossible for me to say.  They look identical but one is bigger.  I tend to use my 10” more than my 12”, but if you have a large family, the larger one would probably be better.
