    Dissappointed

I have had the charger for 3 years. The charger has gradually increased its growling noise until the wife finally made me turn it off at night even though the charger is at the other end of the boat. This week one of the two batteries being charged boiled; I am not sure how much acid was left on the plates when I turned it off. If I hadn't been looking for the routing of a plumbing hose, I am not sure what would have happened as the battery continued to be "cooked" by the charger. As you can guess, I will be looking for another make of charger.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This is a fair charger. There are better out there, but for the price this one is not bad. I would recommend.

    Keeps boiling the batteries

Second winter with the charger. First winter the batteries boiled over twice. Past summer they boiled over once. What good is an automatic charger if one has to babysit it? Has anyone else had this problem?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Commercial use, 4 Years No problem!

We use 2 Deep-cycle battery (Group 31) on our delivery and moving truck to operate the MAXON Liftgate. Since the alternator can never fully charge the batterie. We have to change batterie every 18 month. Then we start using two basic batterie charger to go around truck, we only have 5 truck (10 Batteries), too much work, and not efficient. We install one onboard charger 4 years ago in one truck, 6 month latter we install this onboard charger on every truck. we charge 2 batterie at the same time, since this charger will automatically turn it self down to 1A--2A when the batterie is fully charge. we can keep the charger on for all night with out damage the batterie. We never bought another batterie since we install this onboard charger.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: 3x12v bat being charged, 2 AGL and a starting. The first few times through things operated normally. now I get red light on one bank all the time.

    • A: Try switching to another lead and charge the battery type as needed. Chances are the charger is the problem. This happened to me with 3 different Nautilus units in 2 months.

Q: The Mastercraft Nautilus 15A Onboard Battery Charger seems to get rather hot during charging. Is there any need to shield the Mastercraft Nautilus 15A Onboard Battery Charger when mounting it on a verticle surface which is carpeted? Could the heat from the charge effect/damage the carpet?

    2 Answers
    • A: It does not require a shield . It will indent the carpet and leave this mark indefinitly

Q: will this charger handle 3 batteries in various states of charge? need to know if i hook up 3 bats in various states of charge will the charger adjust the rate or terminate the charge automatically for each indivudal bat with out overcharging the fuller ones or undercharging the half charged ones?

    • A: Each battery is handled individually - if one is fully charged, the charger moves on to the next one. All are rotated through the sequence until all are fully charged.

Q: Does this have to be mounted vertically(on the side of something) or can it be mounted horizontally(flat). The manufacturer says vertically, true? manufacture is schumacher I believe. Their PDF file noted it should be mounted vertically.

    • A: My manual states LEDs should be facing up (thus flat or horizontal, as mine has been for about a year), but I believe that it doesn't matter which way as long as there is good airflow.

Q: How to charge Seep-Cycle Battery I have a "Deka Marine Master - Heavy Duty Deep Cycle" battery for my trolling motor. There's no setting for "deep-cycle". Is there something else I need to do other than setting the battery type to Regular for deep-cycle charging?

    2 Answers
    • A: Yes, you certainly can charge deep cycle batteries. You don't have to worry about setting for starting battery or deep cycle battery. You only need to set it for the battery type - regular/conventional/flooded or Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) or Gel cell.

    • A: yes you can but make sure it is in a well ventilated area as the 15 amp charger does not have cooling fans and gets very hot i recommend placing the charger on a ceramic tile or hot plate so as to not damage what ever you have the charger in so as to not cause a fire

Q: Does this charge your battery at the same time while the boat is running or is it only for when the boat is turned off, I want to know exactly how this charger works .

    • A: This charger must be plugged into an AC outlet (when the boat is at dock, at home, etc.) to charge your batteries.
