Exceptional product produces extraordinary delights

We received this beautiful cast iron pan, from a dear friend, as a wedding present, five years ago. I have used it many times since then, in the oven and on the bbq with exceptional results. I want another one and was very disappointed to see that it had been discontinued. A word to the wise, cast iron does require a little more care than a typical pan, but the potential results are well worth the effort. In addition, cast iron can be restored if it has been neglected, which makes it a better investment than standard cookware. I hope Canadian Tire will reason with Lagostina to remanufacture this exceptional product.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: When making a pizza in this pan can I use a pizza cutter to slice the pizza directly in the pan or will the sharp blade effect the coating of the pan

3 Answers
  • A: It is a cast iron pan, there is no coating. I use a pizza cutter on it all the time. The bigger concern is dulling your cutter on the cast iron.

Q: Has this been pre-seasoned?

3 Answers
  • A: To clarify, the cooking surface is cast iron. The enameled portion is on the outside. However, it is a nubby, not-totally-smooth cast iron surface that is already "seasoned" and ready to go, so prep necessary. It's not like those cast iron pans you buy and have to bake with oil on them to season them. Also the texture of the cast iron (very very slight texture) makes it perfect for breads, and you will find that the cooked bread/pizza/whatever will slide right off, no oiling required.

Q: Would this pan work well for pancakes?

2 Answers
  • A: Good question! I suspect it might as long as you used a "flipper" or spatula that would not scratch the pan's surface.

Q: cleaning/seasoning instructions? Can I use dish soap? Do I have to season with oil and bake in oven after each use?

2 Answers
  • A: It has a non-stick surface, so there is no need to season it, nor treat it with kid gloves. To wash, I use dish soap and a sponge. Much easier to deal with than cast iron.

Q: how do you preseason a lagostina multi-grill pan - i read it is not preseasoned

  • A: It's enamelled, you don't need to. Season like any other cast iron pan if you feel the need to.

Q: Where is this pan made? (In which country?)

  • A: That is something I do not know. Perhaps if you contacted Canadian Tire customer service and/or the manufacturer they could provide that information.

Q: Can you use the pizza pan on the BBQ as long as the temperature doesn't exceed 500 degrees?

2 Answers
  • A: I cannot say definitively that you can't, but I would not. The pan is great in the oven where I use the convection cycle and the heat is moving around the pan, 360 degrees and the temperature is fairly well regulated. On a barbecue, the heat is primarily flowing from below the pan; as this pan does not have holes in the bottom there could be hot spots that develop and the crust might burn and/or the pan might endure damage. Maybe a pizza stone would be better on a barbecue..just a thought. :)
