Dupli-Color Clear Coat Matte Enamel 10/10

The Dupli-Color Clear Coat Matte Enamel is great. I've gone through about 4 cans of it clear-coating matte finished JDM car parts (which I painted) that I ordered from Japan and it went on smoothly, covered the affected surfaces beautifully, and has held up nicely for the last few months.
*A few reviews in for this product are for paint and not this clear coat, and the other 1 star reviews sound like user problems rather than product issues.
If you follow the directions on the can, you should be very happy with the results.

Used this 2 years ago for repainting parts of my car. Did everything properly with primer and wet sanding 10/10 job. Came out good but did not last. This paint starts to crack and fade off the base coat. After a year and a half. Do not use it for outdoor applications. This paint can't handle The heat fluctuations throughout seasons and the sun in the summer do no buy it. Even the coloured versions of this paint are even worst. They start to crack and chip up. And fade a lot!! Go with an oil based paint in my opinion. Cheaper and more durable, used oil based paint on the same application and still holding up great.
No, I do not recommend this product.

A: The Dupli-Color Clear Coat Matte Enamel is made to give a matte finish to any surface, even if it's already glossy or semi-gloss. So yes, it will act like any other clear coat on any other surface that you use it on if used as directed.

A: Should work no problem. Works on plastic, composites, acrylics, metals. wash with soap and water and throughly dry then spray.

Q: Will this resist sweat? I am planning to use this as a sealer for my gaming mouse. my only concern is if it will fade over time.

A: Hello. The retail response is correct: While this paint may work, it's not tested for anything outside of the specific automotive applications we recommend. I'm sorry, but I cannot say it would work for your application. I’d say that sweat/oil/etc from constant handling could negatively impact the coating. Regards, Dupli-Color Customer Support

Q: I'm trying to paint a fibreglass surf board..... the bottom i wanted to make purple and keep the top clear as there is some design under the skin of the board. Which paint would you use and which clear coat would you put over both the paint and raw glass

A: Typically we do not have any recommendations when it comes to applications that would involve the surface being submerged under water because this is not something we do not test on. We would assume that there has to be some specific type of paint that is geared towards custom surf boards but we would not have anything to recommend in Dupli-Color or VHT.

Q: Is this product suitable for use on aluminum? I'm interested in applying clear coat to the aluminum gunnels on my boat. I've been told that it will stop or greatly reduce the aluminum's irritating habit of constantly sloughing that grey powder that gets everywhere. Advice?

A: This product is designed for Automotive not Marine use and will likely fail if used on a submerged section of the boat. So while we cannot guarantee success you could attempt to apply the product on the Gunnels and it should help prevent oxidation of the aluminum. The aluminum would have to be properly prepared for the clear to adhere. You would have to scuff either with 220 sand paper or steel wool. 47-7547 could then be used over top. Sku 47-7528, Engine Enamel Clear may also work for your application as it often used on aluminum heads and engine blocks.
