Q: This doesn't list the type of spark plug for online purchase. What kind is this, is it a QL77JC4 or what is it? Can't purchase this online if I don't know what it is

    • A: Hi Andrew, the CTC SKU no. for QL77JC4 is 018-3075, unfortunately, due to our system limitations our Parts Selector tool isn't functioning as it should for small engine applications. If you type in 018-3075 exactly as shown into the search bar on CT.ca you will be able to add this item to your cart without having to input any vehicle / engine details. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Q: Is this Champion QL77JC4 or L77JC4? I read the explanation given here, and would like to be sure which one is it, and check if it is in stock (Halifax) - I cant because the site requires selecting a car, but its for a 1981 Johnson J50BECIC outboard.

    • A: The product number for the L77JC4 plug is 018-3020. Please call your local Canadian Tire store to inquire about availability.

Q: Is the QL77jc4 the same as the L77jc4 & if not what the difference is, thanks !

    1 Answer
    • A: SUMMARY “Both plugs have the same fitment and spark function. The difference is that the QL77jc4 contains a resistor. In marine applications, the spark plug can create radio frequency interference that can disrupt nearby electronic devices such as GPS, fish finders and ship to shore radios. Including this resistor suppresses the interference while still allowing the plug to function as normal. We recommend using whichever style of plug came out of your engine.” DETAILS "R" Type: Most resistor spark plugs feature a standard "R" type resistor. Most Champion "R" type resistor plugs are Champion SAC-9 suppressors. These extremely reliable resistors are formed from strontium carbonate, aluminum oxide and copper oxide powders. The resistance of a plug with SAC-9 suppressors are capable of combating typical RFI, but cannot be accurately measured with typical low voltage ohmmeters. "Q" Type: Uses a wire wound inductive coil (or electromagnetic suppression) to reduce RFI without negatively affecting ignition performance. "X" Type: Have a special resistor to meet more stringent RFI requirements. To avoid a reduction in performance, resistor types should not be used interchangeably. Use of a non-OE resistor type could result in engine damage and end plug life. […] The only comment I’ll add is that our “Q” series plugs are often seen listed for marine applications. Because of the type of ignition system often seen on boat engines (it’s called “Capacitive Discharge” ), boat systems operate a bit differently than a normal car ignition does. Capacitive Discharge systems makes using the “Q” inductive suppressor is almost essential. Secondly, we recommend “Q” (a wire-wound supressive resistor plug) because it’s very common to find marine applications with a LOT of sensitive electronic equipment onboard (like ship-to-shore radios, fish finders, depth finders, GPS, etc ) Every time the spark is created, a small burst of high-frequency energy accompanies it and is released. The phenomena (these bursts) can be observed as an unwanted form of disruptive electromagnetic interference (“EMI”) or radio frequency interference (“RFI”). The “Q” suppressor’s job is to capture and control this unwanted burst of energy. Our “Q” series plugs are super effective at managing EMI and RFI -- which can cause operational disruptions to the electronic devices I mentioned above – without affecting or reducing the amount of energy ---- created by the Capacitive Discharge ignition system -- needed to fire the plug.

Q: What are the Champion codes? Could you just tell us the Champion code for these MARINE spark plugs? When I use the link "Does this spark plug fit your vehicle" and type in 1970 (the year of my Chrysler 5HP outboard motor), I get no options that are boat motors.

    1 Answer
    • A: We do not have a direct Champion listing for that engine, but we almost certainly have the correct spark plug for you. If it is a single cylinder 1970, 5HP Chrysler, Champion does not list a spark plug. Our stores can cross reference the existing plug for you (assuming there is one and it is correct). We do have an NGK plug for that application (see below) : CTC product number :#18-3920 Year: 1970-1969 Part #: BR6HS Stock #: 3922 Plug Gap: 0.030
