A: I just unscrewed the base (where the wires meet the casing that attaches to the ceiling) pulled it to desired length and used wire cutters to cut and strip

Q: Is the wire/cord able to be shortened. I only want them to hang down about 5”

A: The wire is adjustable, so that the length is different. The range is 0-1520mm. You can loosen below the red one (it is the bushing), you can then adjust the wire length.
