What is the difference between a daypack and a backpack?

While daypacks and casual backpacks usually feature similar shoulder straps, there are a few distinct differences. Daypacks are generally smaller and lighter than traditional backpacks - for example, most daypacks are designed to hold 10 L - 30 L, while standard backpacks tend to range from 30 L - 60 L. Daypacks also generally feature fewer storage compartments than backpacks.

What are the lightest daypacks?

If you’re looking to pack light, daypacks are an excellent choice. Most daypacks are made from technical non-woven materials like nylon and are designed to be lightweight, but size and weight can still vary. For the lightest options, opt for a daypack with just one main storage compartment, thinner shoulder straps, and a lower overall storage capacity.
