HOW TO CHOOSE AN AIR MATTRESS PUMP

Choosing the right air pump is important to making sure your mattress can be inflated and deflated properly and efficiently. Air mattress pumps are not often universal, but many pumps come with several nozzles that are compatible with different valves. Canadian Tire offers a selection of air pumps, both electric and manual, that works well with a variety of mattresses.

What kind of pump do I need for my air mattress?

Check the type of valve you have as well as the type of mattress you have. This will often give you the information you need to choose the right pump. Aside from the right fit, there are also electric and manual pumps to choose from.

What's better: a manual or an electric air mattress pump?

Both manual and electric pumps each have their own benefits. Electric air pumps are efficient and robust and can save effort and time in the long run, however, they are heavy and can require a lot of energy. Manual pumps come in two variations – the foot pump and the hand pump. They are great for when you are on the go as they are light and don’t require a power source. You can also control the amount of pressure better with a manual pump.

How do you pump an air mattress without a pump?

It is not recommended to pump an air mattress without a proper pump, however, if yours is broken or you’ve forgotten to bring one on a trip, you can use any device that blows air. At home, you can use the exhaust mode on your vacuum, a hairdryer, or a leaf blower with a tight connection to inflate your mattress.

Are there other ways to inflate an air mattress?

If you’re camping or away from home and don’t have any of the devices listed above, take a garbage bag and collect air in the bag, then open the mattress valve and place the bag’s open end around it. Press the air from the bag into the mattress, increasing pressure gradually.
