The Edmonton Oilers are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL). They are one of the two NHL franchises based on Alberta, along with the Calgary Flames. Their rivalry is known as the “Battle of Alberta”. They play their home games at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. The team colours are royal blue, orange, and white and their logo features the word “Oilers” in a blue typeface with “leaking” letters and an orange oil drop. The Oilers have won the Stanley Cup five times.
Why are they called the Oilers?
Edmonton is known as the oil capital of Canada. The original owner Bill Hunter formerly owned a Junior A team called the Oil Kings, and thus named the hockey team the Edmonton Oilers.
