Zebco Horizon Spin Combo

I received this as a Christmas gift last year and I have finally had it out few times this season. It was bought at the sale price indicated. For that price it is pretty good. Initially I had my doubts but both the rod and the reel are usable and I have not had any issues. Even the stock line on the first few outings was decent enough and although I did change it out, I could have continued to use it as is. You should know however that the technology in the reel is very old school. This is not instant anti reverse, its not even a multi-point reverse system. It is still the old cogged system which although it works well enough, leaves a lot of play in the handle before it kicks in. Zebco has been building these types of reels labelled under different names for years. You can expect that they have the bugs worked out of it by now. The drag is pretty decent and I have had no issues. I find the rod to be sensitive and I like it. I prefer the cork handle. Although there is no lure weighting on the rod, I can say that I have no problem casting ultralight lures with this unit. When you start casting regular weight lures, it'll cast a mile...no problem. For the sale price this is a decent outfit. I can't say I would have paid regular price for it because at that price point there are lots to choose from out there, Still, I give it four stars.... I like it.

Great rod for the price. Yes it has some plastic parts and is not the most ruggedly built rod. so you treat it as such, use light tackle and don't expect it to handle abuse. Perfect first rod to introduce a child to fishing.

Yea it was OK I used it in the summer for like a week every year the rod is not bad but not good either. But the biggest problem is the real is garbage you can find the same quality on a kids rod , it is always causeing problems (making bird nest and tangling\ knotting) sometimes it just reals in the line so lose that it makes in virtually impossible to cast your fishing lure..... but if your looking for a CHEEP fishing rod that is not reliable but can work good at sometimes then this is your rod!
