The rod is great never have used the reel

I have a bunch of these rods for myself and my kids, I purchased them for just the rod itself I take off the reels and use the line for making leaders. What we do is we put our baitcaster reels on these rods instead and use them when going north where we fish for multispecies over the course of a week. One day it could be trout the next could be bass, pickerel and pike, it's hard to beat a 5'6" 2 piece rod that is able to handle 1/16 -3/4oz lures. Now keep in mind when going for trout they do not cast light lures for fear of a backlash they just hit their flip switch and feed the line out like you would with a spinning reel and we flatline light lures with no problem, once we go for pike and bass using heavier lures there is no backlash fear because of the inertia those lures generate. all in all these handy little rods have stood up too some fierce battles and have not had a problem whatsoever, I also like how short they are in the Canoe and if they have any problems they can fix it themselves or bring it over to me to help out and not have to deal with a "telephone poll" length rod. All in all I have found these rods pack up nice for storage and they just really fill a niche for a do it all rod when paired with a baitcaster reel, I highly recommend not just for kids but also adults looking for a nice rod that can handle most situations!

Meh. Lands fish but....

I have landed small Northern pike with this rod. Casting is ok buy the reel has a mind of it's own. Same technique evert cast and some time the the lure goes 10- 20ft them SUDDENLY DROPS (sometimes dangerously) into the water!. 8/10 casts are good. Also it slips when reeling in. NOT drag buy a weird slip like it won't reel it. The drag can be touchy yet I am able to use it to get fish tired and bring them in. Overall it'll catch fish but if you have more than 24.99 BUY SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great rod. Has handled 4lb bass and walleye with ease. You can cast your lure a mile as well. My 8 year old loves it
