TNT SPLITTER... BACK AGAIN
I bought one of these 6.5 ton splitters 2 years ago..It is still doing a fantastic job, I split at least 6 to 7 cords a year..WELL Canadian tire put the 6.5 ton splitter on sale so I bought another one, just in case they stop making this model.I will use the old one in my wood heated machine shed. I really like the 2 speeds that really speeds up the splitting process..I clamp a wood working vice to the right hand button so that the motor keeps going then I can split using one hand on the dual speed control this helps speed up splitting and your motor will last longer because you are not starting and stopping the splitter with every log you split. (I'm not telling you to do this, this can be dangerous if you are not careful, that is why they make you use 2 hands to split.) This splitter will split will easily split 14-16 inch hard wood logs, even if there is knots in the log. again I hope this helps in making a decision as to what splitter to buy. thanks for reading..signed tntsplitter.

Great Value

This thing is a beast. I will admit, I was skeptical. What a back saver. I can't split anymore, and this will save me a lot of grief. The only thing is the bending over. I should have purchased the stand. I'm about to do that now.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Surprisingly Good
I purchased the 6.5 ton splitter on sale yesterday as the savings from buying full length trees vs. cut/split wood pays for this in the first year...just need to put the work in. I opened the box and only had to bolt on the tires and the rubber feet, everything else was ready to go. I split about 12 hardwood logs in a matter of minutes and could not believe the power this unit has. I also bought the 4 way splitter which simply slips over the built in splitter and I split a large log into 4 sections with ease. Time will tell how this product will perform over time but I'm pleased with the 2 year warranty. Hydraulic fluid only has to be changed every 400 hours so that is a bonus too.
Yes, I recommend this product.

great unit

I have been using this Log Splitter for the past 2 seasons and i am totally satisfied
the 4 way splitting wedge is a handy and very useful attachment for splitting logs over 10 inches in diameter yielding 4 pieces with one stroke of the ram
only thick hardwood requires using the slow traveling high power position
and the only logs i had trouble splitting were pieces with Huge Knots from limbs in them
if you are looking for a unit to Split logs at home or any location where ac is available this will do it
the only real complaint the 2 wheels are really close together so it is not very stable trying to relocate the unit across the yard

Q: Is this worth the extra $200 compared to the 4 ton?
Just bought the 4 ton and it's struggling with some of the really big diameter wood I'm splitting. Can't decide if i should take it back and spend the extra $200 for this one?

Q: 2 stage Ram
on the yardworks 6 ton electric log splitter there is a 2 stage ram. How does this work. when I slide the handle on mine there is no second speed .

A: I had an issue to with this, but found it is for the logs that harder to split. There are two stages to the leaver. One for soft wood witch allows it to split faster, the other for hard wood and it needs a bit more torque to punch though.

Q: What is this splitter's operating temperature range?

6 Answers
A: The splitting power is greatly reduced (my observation) when I've used it in -10 C and lower. If I keep it a semi-warm garage it works much better.

Q: How can you check the oil level in the 6-ton splitter? The manual contains no good information on routine maintenance.
Please don't answer with call a 1-800 number. The splitter is usually used in a location where cell phone use is poor to unavailable. The manual should be much better written with practical use, troubleshooting and maintenance.

A: It uses a countersunk hex Allen head bolt. I used a socket type with a 3/8 drive, both a 5/16" and/or an 8 mm head. (Factory torque was substantial). Either will work. Counterclock-wise to loosen.
Mine was low on oil and in cold weather draws air.
Level was not quite halfway between marks..anyone else find this too?
