    Helpful little machine!

Assembling the snow blower was quick and easy. The plug-in electric ignition is a smart feature and made starting it every time a snap. Never having used a snow blower without self-propelled wheels I did find the unit a little heavy and unwieldy. Possibly larger wheels would make moving the unit around a little easier or maybe it was just me. A headlight would be useful as well, but this is an inexpensive model. Nevertheless, it chewed thru mounds of snow and ice higher than it’s 13" intake with ease. The machine was able to effortlessly throw the snow any direction or distance desired. This unit seems to be very fuel efficient and the small footprint makes it easy to store in a garage or shed. I would recommend this snow blower to anyone facing average snowfall and with a typical smaller new home-sized property.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Great Little Unit

This snowblower is lightweight and compact making it easy for anyone to use and manoeuvre and takes up little space in a crowded garage. I was impressed after our recent heavy snowfall. In a matter of minutes I was able to do my driveway along with 3 of our neighbour's. Lent it out to one neighbour who was struggling with an electric blower and there was no comparison there at all.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Great lightweight snowthrower with plenty of power

This is one powerful little machine! I was skeptical on how well it would be at clearing heavier snow and boy was I wrong! Even with the mild winter here in Southern Ontario we did have a few decent snowfalls and I was able to test this out on up to 12" of wet packing snow in some areas and it did not disappoint. That being said it definitely started bogging down after about 7" and would require more effort to move the thicker snow but still took the strain off my back and arms which is the whole point of these machines in my eyes. The snowthrower is lightweight and easy to maneuver around and pull back and forth when needed. No worries about a large, heavy and awkward machine to deal with when it comes time to turn the unit around to do another pass. The rubber paddle/auger does a great job of pulling the snow in and out of the chute, bringing you down to bare asphalt with ease. I do think there could be some improvement on the chute system for this snowthrower. I was a little disappointed to see there was no handle to adjust the chute for left/right and up/down dispersal. It has a grab handle that you have to reach around and manually adjust for left/right and then a plastic wingnut to adjust the up/down. Living in a newer development we have close driveways and cars parked everywhere so there is a lot of adjusting happening! I found adjusting left to right worked fine but when it came to adjusting the pitch you would really have to tighten the wingnut or it would come lose and within seconds it would be completely angled back and shooting snow high in the air. Hoping they compensate for this with a more sturdy adjustment system to make it easier for the user to control where the snow goes. Aside from minor chute issues the Yardworks 21-in 179cc Single-Stage Snowthrower works really well and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a lightweight yet surprisingly powerful gas snowthrower.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    • A: My Yardwork snowblower electrical connection is a male plug down by the choke. Use any lawn-mower extension cord and plug the female end of it into the mower.

Q: Hi, I just bought this snow blower but the "motor notice manual' was missing. Where can i find it? I see it needs 5-30 oil but how much and is there an oil filter somewhere? Thanks

    1 Answer
    • A: Thank you for your question. The manual can be downloaded at www.mtdparts.ca search for the manufacturer's model number 31AS2S5E515. Alternately please contact us at 1-800-668-1238 with this model number and we'll be pleased to email you the manual. This snow thrower uses 591ml or 20oz of SAE 5W30 engine oil. There is no oil filter, we recommend changing the oil after the first five hours of operation and once per season thereafter.

Q: My Driveway is crushed gravel, how would this product fair on that? I'm a first time home owner, have a driveway that goes to my shed, and I live in the maritimes, right around the snow belt. My biggest concern is how it would handle my driveway where it is crushed gravel. Thanks

    1 Answer
    • A: Single-stage snowblowers are not safe to use on crushed gravel driveways as they will intake the gravel and expel it out the chute. 2-stage or 3-stage snowblowers are safe to use on crushed gravel and would be ideal for a driveway in the snow belt. Canadian Tire carries a variety of 2- and 3-stage snowblowers that would meet your needs, please refer to the Snowblowers landing page to see the full selection.

Q: What is the throw distance?

    1 Answer
    • A: This is a challenging question to answer because there are many variables that impact the distance that snow will travel through the snow thrower. Variables include; Temperature, wind speed, moisture content of snow. The single stage unit noted below is equipped with a very durable auger system that is capable of clearing snow in most challenging winter conditions.
