Great Yard Item

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love this mulcher. I've reduced the amount of bags I put out for pickup. I gave it a 4 because the dust is not contained when shredding. Glasses are needed but I found a way to reduce the dust. After I dump a good amount of leaves I have a 5 gal. bucket I put over the top to keep the dust in. I also start the unit when leaves are in and stop when I hear the leaves are mulched. Then I take the 5 gal. bucket off and start again. I highly recommend this if you have a leaf problem every year. I have a lot of trees and I've been using mine for 2 yrs.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Quick work cleaning the yard

I was not sure what to expect but I was very pleased with the mulcher. I bought it to use some of my leaves as garden mulch but it also significantly sped up the whole process of cleaning the yard. Went from about 45 bags of leaves to about 10, but I wasn’t being that efficient - I am sure it could have been fewer bags. When it is on I couldn’t throw the leaves in fast enough. It kept up with my wife and I loading at the same time by hand. Highly recommend safety glasses and a mask as it is a dusty job when the leaves are dry. The glasses are more to keep the dust out of my eyes than any projectiles. Seemed to me a safe and efficient leaf mulcher. Very happy with it overall.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Nice machine for fall clean up

We have 3 large maple trees that produce lots of leaves and would require 40 plus bags to clean up the yard. Now that number is down to 12 thanks to this mulcher.

The best mulcher

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using my worx 13 amp mulcher for four years. Today I mulched a 9' x 7' 3' high of packed leaves. I ended up with 5 bags 22" high. The shredder string wore 1" off so I can keep shredding more. 5 star unit!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: How does it do with wet leaves

  • A: Yes it can, but be careful to let it dry afterwards. I did a severe amount of wet leaves and it caused the internal motor torsion springs for the carbon brushes to rust out and fail. Now it doesn't work. Its a small fix but most won't want to bother and just pitch the unit.

Q: Does Canadian Tire carry the WORX branded replacement lines mentioned repeatedly by the manufacturer as necessary to maintain the warranty? If so, what's the product number? It doesn't show up on a search.

  • A: Thanks for the imprecise answer above. I have to admit I'm impressed with an answer for the Canadian Tire website that says do an online search that will generate results to go to a competitor: Amazon, Walmart, eBay. Now that the search function on the Can Tire site is partially working again, I see that No, they do not carry the replacement strings. So it's either go to a competitor for the parts, or void the warranty using another brand. (See WitchitaRadioGuy's review above.).

Q: will this unit mulch tall grasses as well. We don't have many trees but my wife like to grow ornamental grasses that are 4 to 6 ft tall. In the spring she cuts rhem down and then I am left wirh a heap of grass cuts that are difficult to bag.

  • A: I just mulched up some ornamental grass. It was easier than duct taping and cutting and then filling the bags. True, I had to stop and reposition the grass to get it all to process, but still much easier. It really chews them up, I think it will need a deep clean as the end result if very fine and looks like the motor intake and or exhaust needs cleaning.

Q: Does a standard paper lawn recycle bag fit under the unit ?

  • A: The newer is NO.  It’s the major defect with this product. The paper yard waste bags that are the MOST COMMON do not fit at all with this product.  The product needs a redesign to work proprietor with standard paper bags.  Also, there does. It seem to be a reusable bag available to mulch into and then dump from that into paper bags.

Q: Can it shred paper?

Q: Is this tall enough to place a standard 30 gallon yard waste bag underneath it so the leaves go directly into the bag?

Q: Will the WORX WG430 13 amp shred decorative grasses? I also have cane grass. Or will it just break off the cutting string?

  • A: Ummm ... not to contradict Bob's answer, but I would not put dried ornamental grasses through the shredder.  I did this inadvertently two seasons ago when raking up our lawn leaves that also included long, dried leaf-blades from our ornamental grasses.  When I mixed the leaf-blades in with the leaves in the shredder, the sinewy blades wound around the bottom of the cutter wheel and jammed it. I am very careful, now, to extract the ornamental grasses' dried leaf blades from the leaves and not put them through the shredder.  Lesson learned.

Q: No one has asked if you can just drop the mulch into a wheel barrow, to then wheel the mulch to add to the garden?

Originally posted on worx.com

  • A: Thank you for your inquiry! Yes, you can put the mulch directly into your garden for many benefits. For example; Adds Organic Matter Leaves break down into humus, improving soil structure and fertility. Provides Nutrients As they decompose, they release essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Improves Moisture Retention Mulched leaves help retain soil moisture and reduce evaporation. Suppresses Weeds A layer of leaf mulch can block sunlight, reducing weed growth.

Q: Can I use this product on fresh or dries stalks of plants like milk weed or golden rod?

Originally posted on worx.com

  • A: Hello Valued Customer, Thank you for your question. This unit is not made for debris much larger than standard leaves, this type of stalk is likely too dense for the unit to process properly. You may burn out the motor, or go through the cutting line faster than what would be deemed efficient. I would not suggest this tool for that kind of job. Thank you for choosing WORX!
