Looked good, tried it out found to dig into the ice to much. Couldn't drill through 18" of ice with out stopping halfway. Was using a millwaukee 2804 brushless drill with a 5ah battery on it , battery was overheating , Couldn't get more that 4 holes on 1 battery. Returned it to ct for refund gift card

No, I do not recommend this product.

Light plastic auger

The auger itself worked fine to drill 4 holes through ice 2 1/2 feet thick but it took a huge amount of drill battery power. Took all afternoon to drill 4 holes with a 18v DeWalt drill and 4 batteries, and two charger stations back at the BnB

Yes, I recommend this product.

Works great!

I bought this after losing my other auger down the hole. I don’t know why other manufacturers haven’t gone with this design, where the auger is attached to the drill with the provided clamp. This is much better than using a disc or a frisbee to save the auger when your chuck inevitably gets loosened. So far I’ve drilled about 50 holes through 30” of ice without any problems. My 60 Volt Dewalt drill is a great match with this auger.

Questions

Q: How is this for redrilling holes in a permanent hut that have frozen back over?

4 Answers
  • A: Redrilling old holes is always challenging as the auger normally jams. Suggest a fresh hole adjacent if you have room.

Q: Exactly what Dewalt drill do I need

  • A: Ideally a brushless hammer drill (not in hammer mode). 20 volt or 18 volt Milwaukee. Milwaukee is pricey but a great drill. There are many drill reviews specifically for this topic on You Tube.

1 Answer

Q: Just purchase this auger and can't get it to work. Have a 20v .5inch drill on it and all it does is bounce around. Will not cut in and grab the ice. What am I doing wrong?

1 Answer
  • A: Sounds like the blades are on backwords. I changed the blades incorrectly once and that's what it did. Fat end out and flat side to the ice is correct.
