Great idea but poorly built, now doesn't function

I bought just the lantern at Canadian Tire in Victoria, BC. I loved the idea of a solar powered light for my earthquake kit. The light is very strong when it works. But within 8 months (and very little actual use), the light no longer functions. It sometimes comes on, and then shuts off, even though the lantern is fully powered up. Also the on/off knob loosened and came off. That's pretty bad considering I paid about $80 for the lantern. Too bad as I was originally really keen on this item.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: Is there a manual or directions for this set? There is nothing in the box and I would like to know how many hours it needs to charge, what the red light on it means, some more of each lights features/uses other than the little that is on the box.
