nice addition to electricity bill with 0 cooling.

it blows heat out of a tube vent that leads to the slideing doors to the patio. There is more heat added to the room then the machine can possibly cool off. in fact It got even hotter in my room then it would have been with the machine off. its one of those catch 22s yeah its blowing some cool air out but barely any. and the machine is produceing more heat then the cool air coming out. Thus just making u sweat more that your electricity bill is going up for no reason.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Upper fan fail

Upper fan broke after less than two months. Come on Whirlpool, this is obviously a manufacturing defect!!!

    Another broken fan wheel

Was never a fan (hah!) of window/individual a/c, but in this apartment, had no choice. Thought that buying this big, expensive unit would do the trick. It worked *OK* for the first year and a half, then Blammo! the fan wheel blew apart. Without that, you can't run the unit AT ALL (hence the lowest overall rating possible) and as others below have noted, replacement parts are not on the menu. So I have a very expensive piece of useless junk in my living room, and will probably have to PAY to get rid of it when I move to a place with *central A/C.*

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Upper Blower Fan

Have had this unit for 3 years...worked fairly well, but when the upper blower fan flew apart, and after reading the other reviews, I wish I have never seen this thing.....

Cheap blower fan will effectively brick this unit

We bought this last year to get us through the hottest part of the summer. I had to lug it to the bathtub to drain it, which was the worst part initially, but it didn't require frequent draining and kept the house cool. It is heavy which makes draining take some effort. The heat started ramping up again this June, so we started using it again. Unfortunately, on July 5th the squirrel-cage, upper blower fan cracked nearly in half. This happened 13 months after purchase, outside of the 12 month warranty, so we were not eligible for repair or a replacement unit. When I tried to order a replacement fan it was literally impossible to obtain one through Whirlpool. Their customer service line sent me to a third-party company called Transglobal, and their parts department informed me that the blower fan part had been on back order for "a long time" and he had no idea when they would receive new shipments. He said Whirlpool does not manufacture the part, they are made in China, and he had no estimate whatsoever of when they might be available. So, a $10 plastic part breaking has turned this $600 machine into junk. If you buy this you had better hope the fan breaks within 12 months of purchase, because at least then you can get a replacement from the retailer. Beyond that, you are out of luck.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    • A: constantly. I got tired of draining the unit and put it up on a table and ran the hose outside at a downward angle.

Q: I have no window, does this unit works with no venting? i read that there's a drain, will it work in a basement with no window?

    2 Answers
    • A: This unit needs to be vented outside. If the exhaust is not properly vented outside, you will just get the hot air cycling back into the room, forcing the AC to run indefinitely with no real cooling effect.

Q: can the supplied power cord be lengthed or longer one purchased. the supplied power cord is 6 feet long. I need an extra 2 feet (8 feet total) to reach the nearest power receptacle.

    • A: the longer the power cord u use the farther the heat vent stretches. the longer the heat vent stretches the more heat is being added to your room then the machine can possibly cool.

Q: Why do you sell an item that, when it breaks, the company will not even sell the parts for it? When a part breaks outside of the warranty I should be able to buy the parts necessary to make it work again.

    • A: no point in fixing this ac machine. its a hot air machine. when I turned this machine on it blew some cold air yes. but the hot air coming out the back through the exaust vent was incredibly hot. making me sweat even more!... best thing is to just toss this machine out the window. don't bother with parts.

Q: Leaking! I just got a brand new unit and followed the installation guide but it's leaking so much water from underneath. The drainage hoses have nothing coming out of them it seems. What do I do?

    2 Answers
    • A: Seems if you unit is leaking water at front it need to be tilted so water runs to back left side if you looking at it from the front. Pump for pumping water to spray on compessor to evaporate is in bottom corner where the long drain hose comes out. You might need to place something thin under the front wheels to make water travel to that corner. Water then will be pumped to evaporate. Hope this fixes you problem.

Q: Can I just plug this into an outlet and turn it on or does it need to go into a window? Do any parts go outside (like tubes, etc.)?

    2 Answers
    • A: I must exhaust outside. It comes with a window adapter and hose. It's fairly simple to do but I found I had to use a saw to cut the window adapter to fit in my window.

Q: what is the capacity of the water tank and does the unit automatically shut off when water tank is full?

    2 Answers
    • A: The unit is a no-water tank design. The condensed water will be pumped up and sprayed on condenser, then be evaporated and drained outside the room though the pipe. During very humid weather, you have to use the drain hole to drain the water out. The drain hose is provided with the unit as an accessory.
